The Ecology Park Lath House

Ecology Park has provided educational opportunities on native plant cultivation in our shade shelter, the Lath House for decades. Our Lath House, which used to provide the habitat for growing native trees, shrubs and plants that require shade, is deteriorating and needs to be replaced. With your support in 2023, GreenUP will rebuild the Lath House ensuring that many more generations can learn about the treasured shade growing native species that we cultivate beneath it.

Cultivating GrowthEcology Park Lath House in the Spring

In 2022, over 4,500 visitors enjoyed and explored the five acres of naturalized space that GreenUP cares for within the park. As well, over 750 children participated in immersive outdoor educational programs in Ecology Park’s gardens and landscapes. In addition to providing an urban oasis, Ecology Park is home to our native plant and tree nursery, a trusted source for healthy, locally grown plant stock and a resource for ecological gardening practices. Throughout the 2022 season of operation, 265 trees, and over 3,750 wildflowers, grasses, ferns, and shrubs were sold by the nursery. Each year GreenUP experiences a growing demand for resilient, native species from gardeners and organizations across the region. Rebuilding the Lath House will help GreenUP and Ecology Park to meet that demand, and by growing our own seed, we can grow plants that are regionally sourced and more likely to thrive in this region.

Support Ecology Park’s Lath House Build

The success of our campaign depends on community leaders like you. GreenUP is a registered charity and all contributions are eligible for a tax receipt for income tax purposes. All gifts exceeding $5,000 will be recognized on our donor wall at Ecology Park.

Construction of the Lath House will be completed using traditional timber framing techniques and use regionally sourced, white cedar beams. Local contractors estimated total cost for design, inspection, and construction to be $45,000. GreenUP has confirmed that $10,000 has been raised so far, and we couldn’t be more grateful.  Your support will help us to ensure the success of this project in 2023.
