Little Forest Planting at Roger Neilson Public School
GreenUP staff, students, and community volunteers will be installing a Little Forest at Roger Neilson Public School this fall! A little forest is a densely planted collection of native trees and shrubs designed to grow into a diverse, resilient forest ecosystem.
Together, we’ll be planting 300 native trees and 50 shrubs in a 100m² space on the school grounds. As the forest grows, it will provide key habitat for wildlife, increase biodiversity, capture carbon, provide shade, and demonstrate what can be accomplished by bringing together a host of native plants in a little space. Additionally, GreenUP will plant six large caliper trees to provide more shade in the schoolyard in years to come.
More information to follow. Rain date of Thursday, September 24th.
GreenUP graciously thanks the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Canadian Trees for Life and Green Communities Canada for their support of the Little Forest program.
