SUMMARY:Restoration Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Join for Restoration Wednesdays at GreenUP Ecology Park in October! This series offers an excellent opportunity to engage in meaningful outdoor work\, learn about native plants and invasive species\, and connect with like-minded community members. \nLearn something new each week! From native and invasive plant identification\, to strategies for managing invasive species\, and preparing restoration areas for planting and regeneration. \nNo experience is necessary\, just a willingness to learn and get your hands dirty! \nWhat to Bring:\nSturdy\, closed-toe shoes\nLong pants & sun protection (hat\, sunscreen)\nRain coat (weather dependent)\nWater bottle\nLunch and snacks \nAccessibility & Weather:\nWe aim to make these events flexible and inclusive. Tasks will involve bending\, kneeling\, digging\, and walking on uneven terrain. If you are unsure about your capacity\, let us know; we’ll find a way for you to contribute meaningfully! In heavy rain\, we will switch to sheltered tasks. If you have accessibility needs or concerns\, please get in touch with us in advance. We have an accessible washroom. However\, only some areas of the Park are fully accessible to mobility device users. \nPerks for Volunteers:\nLearn hands-on ecological restoration skills.\nMeet great people and engage with your community.\nEnjoy a one-time 10% discount off native plant purchases at our Native Tree and Plant Nursery. \nQuestions?\nWe’ll reach out to confirm your attendance and provide additional information. You can also email us at ecologypark@greenup.on.ca with any questions or concerns. \nGreenUP is grateful to Trans Canada Trail’s Planting for Tomorrow program\, Trent University\, and the Invasive Species Action Fund for their support of Restoration Wednesdays in 2026. \nTo volunteer at this event\, sign-up here: GreenUP Volunteer Portal!\n

SUMMARY:Little Forest Planting at Ecology Park
DESCRIPTION:Join GreenUP as we plant a new Little Forest — a densely planted collection of native trees and shrubs designed to grow into a diverse\, resilient forest ecosystem. \nTogether\, we’ll be planting 300 native trees and 50 shrubs in a 100m² space at Ecology Park. As the forest grows\, it will provide key habitat for wildlife\, increase biodiversity\, capture carbon\, provide shade\, and demonstrate what can be accomplished by bringing together a host of native plants in a little space. \nCome get your hands dirty\, learn more about Little Forests and native species\, and help us to establish a forest that will continue to serve the community for many generations to come. \nGreenUP graciously thanks Canadian Trees for Life and Green Communities Canada for their support of the Little Forest program. \nTo register\, please visit GreenUP’s Volunteer Portal.\n
