GreenUP wins North American award
September 18th, 2013
GreenUP is pleased to announce it has been selected as the winner of the North American Native Plant Society’s “Native Plant Garden Award” for 2013. The organization was selected because of its work around education and conservation of native plants at GreenUP Ecology Park.
The North American Native Plant Society’s (NANPS) awards committee was impressed with GreenUP Ecology Park’s dedicated staff and their ongoing efforts to protect and enhance the native flora and fauna within the park. The committee was also very excited to learn about the park’s school and community outreach programming, and accomplishments meeting the challenging expectations of a diverse population, while maintaining the integrity of the park on a limited budget.
This award speaks volumes about the hard work, dedication and thousands of staff and volunteer hours that have been put into GreenUP Ecology Park over the past two decades. We’re thrilled to be the recipient of such a prestigious award that puts Peterborough on the map in North America as a place where native plants are appreciated and enjoyed.
GreenUP Ecology Park is a five-acre showcase of sustainable landscape ideas and resources. The park is home to display gardens and naturalized areas, a native plant nursery, children’s programs, garden market, skill-building workshops and hands-on displays. This unique, award-winning centre is an ecological adventure for the whole family, staffed from May through October.
GreenUP will receive the Native Plant Garden Award at the NANPS Annual General Meeting on Saturday, October 19th in Markham.
