Key Funders
The Living Cities Canada program from Green Communities Canada is advancing green infrastructure (GI) in cities and towns across the country. We envision communities from coast to coast where green infrastructure—wetlands and woodlands, tree-lined streets, parks, bioswales, rain gardens, green roofs and permeable pavements—is equitable, abundant, and thriving.
The Township of Douro-Dummer is a quaint rural community comprised of small and large businesses, farmlands, beautiful lakes and rivers, parks, walking trails, and recreational opportunities.

The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority is a community-based environmental agency that protects, restores and manages the natural resources within the Otonabee Region watershed. Otonabee Conservation works with its eight member municipalities to create a healthy, environmentally diverse watershed that improves the quality of life for residents, makes our area more appealing to visitors and new business, and helps to ensure a more vibrant regional economy.
Nourish is all about food. Nourish is a collaborative partnership between GreenUP, YWCA Peterborough Haliburton, and Peterborough Public Health. Nourish cultivates health, builds community, and promotes fairness through innovative programs dedicated to eating, cooking, growing, and advocating for good food.
The Sustainable Neighbourhood
Action Program (SNAP) works with the GreenUP Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood (SUN) program in an advisory capacity.
SNAP is a collaborative, neighbourhood-based solution for advancing sustainable urban renewal and climate action in older urban areas. SNAP helps municipalities and organizations improve efficiencies, draw strong local community support and build innovative partnerships for implementation of a broad range of initiatives in the public and private realms. By reframing environmental projects to incorporate greater social and economic outcomes, SNAP has helped to generate creative solutions that garner more support for implementation.
One of the largest grantmakers in Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation is unique for its deployment of 330 volunteers to review and analyze more than 3,000 grant applications each year. To make great grants that help create vibrant and healthy communities, program staff rely on our volunteers to bring their knowledge of local community needs and sectoral expertise to the grant review process.
The Trillium Foundation has recently supported GreenUP through two grants:
- Community Building Fund grant of $52,800 to retrofit and restore the Children’s Garden
- Resilient Communities Fund grant of $80,900 to rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19
The Trillium Foundation is currently celebrating their 40th anniversary. Follow the celebration online with the #40Moments.
