Rain Barrels + Rebates
Rain barrels are an excellent way to capture water for use in your garden and yard.
By watering with a rain barrel during droughts and low water conditions, you can reduce your demand on our municipal water systems or your well.
Plants thrive on ample rain water and roots respond well to water that is not cold, like that from a tap.
GreenUP sells rain barrels made from re-purposed, recycled, food-grade olive barrels, complete with brass spigot and overflow valve with a 5 foot drainage hose and a double-meshed screw top lid.
2026 Rain Barrel Rebate — Update
Rain barrels are no longer available as of 2026. Please contact your municipality to express interest in continued rebates.
Program History
Rain Barrels are one of many tools residents can use to conserve and manage water at home.
In the past, both the Peterborough Utilities Group and the Township of Selwyn have partnered with GreenUP to offer Rain Barrel Rebate Programs reducing the cost of purchase.
For many years, the GreenUP Store was a location where residents could purchase a rain barrel and, if eligible, participate in a rebate program. The GreenUP Store closed in January 2025. Plans to sell rain barrels at GreenUP Ecology Park in the spring of 2025 are now in discussion.
Partners
GreenUP is grateful for our long-standing partnership with the Peterborough Utilities Group. GreenUP and the Peterborough Utilities Group are both committed to reducing the amount of water and energy being consumed at home, at work, and at school.
For more than 20 years, the Peterborough Utilities Group has generously provided GreenUP with essential funding that directly supports conservation programs and services in our community. GreenUP thanks PUG for their commitment to sustainability!
