Schoolyard Greening Projects Working Bee
July 2 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us on Thursday July 2nd, from 10am-noon, to help give the plantings at Keith Wightman P.S. some early summer care.
Tasks will involve:
- Learning about Miyawaki Little Forests and unravelling bindweed from around the young trees
- Learning about living playscapes, like Willow Tunnels, and spreading mulch at the base of the willow sprigs
- Learning about the sumac forest that boarders the schoolyard and helping to weed it.
What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothes that can get dirty, long pants and closed-toed shoes
- Sun protection
- Water bottle/snacks
Where to Meet:
- Meet in the Keith Wightman P.S. school yard. You can park in the school parking lot and walk to the yard.
What’s the Impact?
- Research shows that natural playscapes consistently outperform manufactured playgrounds because they encourage longer, deeper, more imaginative play, reduce stress and increase attention and promote connection to nature which is protective for lifelong health.
