Big Bluestem

This is the king of the prairie grasses, and an indicator of prairie ecosystems. Big bluestem can grow to 5 or 6’ tall in ideal conditions – a clump-forming grass with flower spikes that look like a bird’s foot. Full sun and well-drained soil.

Sun Requirements: Full shade to part shade

Water Requirements: Normal to moist conditions

Wildlife: Many insects, small mammals, birds, butterflies
