Asarum canadense

Wild Ginger

Despite its name, this plant is not related to true ginger, but it has a similar spicy smell. A beautiful ground cover for shady places, wild ginger has broad, heart-shaped leaves. It is one of the earliest woodland flowers to bloom, with wine-red blossoms that lie on the ground under the leaves.
