Cephalanthus occidentalis


Buttonbush is a native shrub of marshes and damp shorelines.  It has fluffy white round blossoms in July, followed by unique round seed heads which look like large buttons.  Buttonbush grows best in full sun in soil that is constantly moist.

Height: Grows 3 to 10 feet

Sun Requirements: Full to part shade

Water Requirements: Moist to wet soils

Flowers: White fluffy flowers in late summer

Attracts: Butterflies, bees, birds, hummingbirds
